Instructor: Kevin Burke

Limited to 12 participants

This class covers all the essentials to help you get started with birding. Students will learn the basics of identifying birds by their songs, plumage and behavior, and how to use field guides, binoculars and other equipment. A good part of the day together will allow for practical experience identifying birds by sight helped by an expert guide. You are sure to gain the foundation you need for a lifetime of birding adventures. If students haven't already accessed the eBird app and would like some practice beforehand, we'll be glad to share on On Demand class that Kevin taught last year.

Students should bring water, lunch (or purchase lunch through the Bent Creek Bistro), come dressed for a day in the field, and bring binoculars. Some field glasses will be available to borrow through Adult Education Programs.

*Registrants will be sent a reminder email the day prior to class with the meeting location and additional details. Please add to your contacts to ensure our emails do not end up in your spam folder. We encourage all participants to make conscious, courteous decisions based on your own and others' wishes and needs for safety. Mask wearing is supported but not required of participants for experiences in the field.
