Inspired by Nature: Make a Sketchbook & Start Sketching!

ONSITE | Three Sessions: Artists Talk - Friday, August 19, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Workshop - Saturday & Sunday, August 20 - 21, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Chadalice Hagen and Jane Voorhees are forces of nature who will teach students how to make sketchbooks and then guide them in getting started sketching. Learn how to make two different useful sketchbooks – a leather covered  "Pocket Sketchbook" and a hardcover "Favorite Sketchbook" with Chadalice on Saturday. Then on Sunday, fit in some practice in the field: Learn sketching methods with Jane, exploring a variety of tools, techniques and tips for using the newly created sketchbooks.

 

Registration fee includes all supply costs (approximately $40). All book materials and supplies will be provided by Chadalice including tools to use during the class. Jane will provide a variety of various sketching materials for use during the class and handouts will be provided  by both instructors.

 

Chadalice Hagen is a full time artist, writer and bookbinder. She holds BA and MA degrees in art and textiles from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and MFA from Cranbrook.  She has written 3 books for Lark Publishing about hand felt making and works in her studio in West Asheville.

 

Jane Voorhees, a full-time studio artist from western North Carolina, has been painting for more than 30 years. She has her own successful card company featuring her watercolors and pastels. She is part of a large family of artists that is featured in the current exhibit, Nature and Nurture: The Voorhees Family Artistic Legacy,

 at the Baker Visitor Center Gallery.

 

Registration and Participation in In-Person Classes through the Arboretum:

  • Registration for this class will close two days before the class start date.
  • Make sure you enter your email address correctly when registering.
  • Please add adulteducation@ncarboretum.org to your contacts to ensure our emails do not end up in your spam folder.
  • Registrants will be sent a reminder email the day prior to class with the meeting location, current Safety Guidelines, and additional details.
  • In the event of inclement weather or other emergent circumstances, the instructor will be in contact with students to arrange an online session as an alternative to meeting onsite.
