Meditation improves cognition and emotional well-being, while reducing the effects of stress on the body and the brain. In this series, we will explore the fundamentals of developing a healthy relationship with meditation practice. We will practice seated meditation (on chair or cushion), slow walking meditation in nature, lying-down progressive relaxation, and cultivation of the Four Immeasurable mind-states (Acceptance, Compassion, Contentment and Equanimity). Mats and other props will be supplied.

Jenne Sluder is a qualified mental health professional certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapists as a trauma-sensitive therapeutic yoga instructor. She holds a master’s in transpersonal psychology: ecopsychology from Naropa University and specializes in mind-body approaches to improving mental and physical health. An Asheville native, Sluder works with individuals and with groups engaging somatic (body-based), contemplative (mindfulness-based), ecological (nature-based), and compassion-based practices.
