This class is an introduction to the magic of paper marbling with acrylic paint. Learn how to create both traditional and contemporary designs by floating pigments on water, creating designs with a variety of tools and transferring them to paper. Participants will produce many decorated sheets suitable for framing or for a variety of other artistic uses. Students should bring rubber gloves; all other supplies will be provided. No experience necessary.

Anne Murray has been passionate about bookmaking ever since encountering The Penland Book of Handmade Books at the public library in 2006. Her skills in binding, paper making, marbling, creating book cloth, and woodworking have been acquired from the John Campbell Folk School (Brasstown, NC), the Penland School of Crafts (Penland, NC),and the Sawtooth School for Visual Art (Winston-Salem, NC), as well as from several well-known paper and book artists. After years of developing and expanding her skills, Murray is now a full-time artist specializing in bookbinding, papermaking, marbling, and book repair.  A teacher at heart, she finds pleasure in sharing her passion for paper and book arts.
