Successful landscape design creates holistic spaces that are aesthetically pleasing, balanced and where every piece of the landscape is maximally used to benefit the system as a whole. This is done in many ways but primarily through understanding design while developing beneficial relationships in the ecosystem, minimizing waste and energy, replicating natural systems, valuing diversity and garden efficiency. An ideal landscape nurtures itself and fits seamlessly into the natural environment. In this two-part class, students will learn landscape design basics, principles of Permaculture, and be called to action through inspiration.

Jennifer Verprauskus is a North Carolina Licensed Landscape Architect and a Permaculture Design Certificate Holder. She went to the University of Massachusetts and studied Landscape Architecture. Since graduating, she has traveled the world to help people grow trees and their own food. She is the founder of both UpBeet Landscapes and BareRoot Designs, PLLC.
