Learn the art of making beautiful Ukrainian pysanky using the method of batik wax-resist dyeing and become familiar with the wide range of traditional Ukrainian patterns and symbols. The designs are made with melted beeswax applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns or make up your own design. Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique, fun and colorful!

Andrea Kulish, a first-generation Ukrainian-American, learned the intricate art of pysanky eggs as a young girl sitting in on her mother’s weekly classes. Now she not only creates these beautiful objects with unique folk-inspired designs, but teaches classes in the art herself. Andrea may be found working in her studio in the River Arts District of Asheville, a creative space also featuring woodblock and silkscreen designs, jewelry, art cards, and mixed media works.
