Make dinner. Stay attractive. Nurture the baby. Fight off predators. Find water. Stay warm. Deal with the neighbors: It’s a tough life for a plant. This class will explore how plants handle these daily challenges using and modifying only leaves, stems, and roots. The course will cover plant structure, function, evolution and classification. This class is an abbreviated version of the “Botany Basics” class.

Alexandra Holland graduated from Duke University and earned her master's degree in botany from the University of Texas at Austin. She was in the first class of students to be certified as Blue Ridge Naturalists and has a passion for getting children excited about the natural world.
