This class provides a basic overview of the terms and methods used in identifying wildflowers, with a focus on those blooming in the spring. Participants will learn to use the method of identification addressed in “Newcomb’s Guide to Wildflowers” as a means of identifying flowers and take a short walk to put these skills to use. This class will be an excellent introduction for those new to the region or those who simply wish to know what flowers they encounter on hikes in our area.
Marilyn Kolton and Louis Dwarshius are regular teachers of birding and wildflower courses and lead many nature hikes. Both are certified Blue Ridge Naturalists and past presidents of local Audubon societies. Kolton has been contributing writer to the Illinois Audubon Society magazine and is a past board member of the Asheville-based Elisha Mitchell Audubon society. Dwarshius is a board member of the Asheville Botanical Gardens.
